Steps To Prepare for a Portable Storage Unit Delivery

If you have a big move coming your way and are in need of renting a portable storage unit then you should also make sure you are prepared for the delivery of that unit. Here are the steps to prepare for a portable storage unit delivery.

Steps To Prepare for a Portable Storage Unit Delivery

Location, Location, Location

Be sure to choose a location with flat, level ground. This is essential when it comes to placing a portable storage unit on your residential or commercial property. Steep driveways and uneven terrain in general are not recommended. Also, avoid soft ground. Portable storage units require strong level surfaces.

Make sure that there is enough clearance if the portable storage unit is to be placed in an area that has a roof or some other overhead structure such as a garage. Generally speaking, storage spaces call for about 12-15 feet of clearance in width and about 20-30 feet in length as a delivery vehicle must also be accounted for.

While on the topic of location, make sure that the space is accessible and, again, account for both the portable storage unit and the delivery vehicle. There should be no low-hanging objects, fences or parked vehicles in or around the chosen location.

Be Up to Date on Local Regulations

Some cities and neighborhoods require a permit for the placement of a portable storage unit. This is generally needed if a unit is to be placed on a street or other public property. Also, if you have an HOA then you would be wise to consult with that organization as well. If the portable storage unit is to be placed on a street, you will also want to make sure that its placement is not a detriment to traffic flow or other limited parking spaces such as a handicap zone.

Prep for Your Portable Storage Unit Like You Mean It

Once a proper space or location is selected, be sure to prep for the arrival of your portable storage unit. To start with, it is recommended that you double-check the measurements so that you know your unit will fit. This means you should make sure you know the dimensions of the unit prior to its delivery. Also, make sure that the space is clear. Remove any debris such as vehicles, toys and other items that might be in the way. You must also account for the space needed for delivery and access to the portable storage unit’s door.

Don’t Idle. Stay Busy

While you are waiting for the delivery of your portable storage unit, go ahead and begin organizing your items for loading. Gather boxes and packing materials. If furniture is to be loaded, make sure you have pads and a way to secure those heavier items while the unit is in transport. Also, decide on where these larger items will load first or last. This is important when it comes to the actual unloading of the unit. .
